Office Simulation
An agent-based workplace simulation project at Fraunhofer IAO. The model represents employees, schedules, movement, and interactions to compare office attendance and layout scenarios.

- Fraunhofer IAO
- Period
- Jun/Jul 2026 – PresentOngoing
- Focus
- Agent-Based Modeling
Problem
Workplace planning involves questions about desk capacity, attendance, team distribution, communication, and focused work. The project uses simulation to compare scenarios before changes to office layouts or attendance policies are implemented.
Employees are represented as agents with schedules and behavioural rules for movement, meetings, and interactions.
Contributions
Technical involvement began in late June/early July 2026:
- Technical architecture and requirements
- Mesa environment and simulation-code development
- Backend development and the initial MVP interface
- Integration, code review, and bug fixing
- Technical documentation and GitLab/development environment setup
- Investigation of how agents represent doors and walls in the simulation
